It’s been so long since I’ve posted, I think the best option is to do bullet points for all the topics I might have posted about in the past couple of months.  (In other words: commence lazy blogging.)

  • Elizabeth Alexander!  I thought she rocked the house.  Sure, she wasn’t perfect.  The poem perhaps wasn’t perfect.  Her delivery perhaps wasn’t perfect.  But in my opinion, she took what was a near-impossible task (writing an Event poem that could be understood by a huge cross-section of humanity in a single reading, that was lofty per the occasion but not too abstract, etc…) and knocked it out of the park.  Surely she was the best inaugural poet thus far.  And I thought her poem contained some really wonderful lines.  I am very much looking forward to reading more of her work.
  • Jon Stewart’s comments about poetry and Elizabeth Alexander:  BOOOOO!  Normally I love Jon Stewart, but he needs a slap on the hand for maligning poetry.
  • I’ve had a poem picked up by Rattle! I’m thrilled. The poem is called “Midwestern Gothic” and will be in the Spring issue.
  • Since the Rattle acceptance, I’ve had five rejections in a row, three of which came on the same day.  Man, that’s tough.
  • I haven’t written much at all lately, but I did manage one poem that I’m very pleased with.  It’s one of those that comes really easily, along with that gut feeling that it’s good.  I wish I could write those more often.
  • AWP in just a few more days!  I am very excited.  This will be my first AWP, and lots of people who I know are going.

There’s more, but I’ll save the rest for the next post.  Hopefully that will happen sooner than a month from now.  Or two.  Heh.
