National Poetry Month poster 2009

A wee bit creepy, non?  Reminds me of a horror movie poster.  But it sure does get one’s attention, does it not?  The more I look at it, the more I love it.  The Prufrock reference, of course, but also the outrageousness of it, the strangeness.  It makes one take notice, and puzzle, and consider.  You really can’t ignore this one, you know?

The downside is that if NPM exists for the purpose of bringing poetry to the attention of the unwashed masses, they may be so confused by the quote that they feel a disconnection and blow the entire thing off.  Poetry is hard, right?  And doesn’t this prove it?   [*tongue in cheek, but only partly*]

I’m giving it an 8 out of 10.  What do you think?

    I love it! I think it’s perfect.
After all aren’t poets filled with fear of rejection and faced with so many decisions, revisions…
    ‘Do I dare
    Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.’
    Eliot’s cool.

To quote Toni Cade Bambara “The purpose of a writer is to make revolution irresistible.”
